Paleo diet, is it a fad or one which we incorporate into our lives?
The Paleo diet has been around for quite some time now. It was created in a way for us human to go back to the way our ancestors would have eaten. Early humans basically ate to survive. They lived off the land and what was available to them at the time. Can I say it was a healthy diet, I am not quite sure? There is no recorded history on how long their life span was or what type of health issues they endured. Like everything else fads do come and go. We have seen the craze of cabbage patch kids. Certain styles of clothing become popular every so many years. As for food, take the egg for instance. At one point it’s very healthy to eat and then there are times when it is declared that it has too much cholesterol and could clog the arteries.
A healthy diet should consist of:
*Produce/ fruits and veggies
*Vitamins and minerals
I am going to say that most Americans probably do not eat very healthy? I can only speculate that from what I see. My assumption comes from what I see people eating when they eat out. From what I see them putting into their shopping carts. Or from the constant news reports of the increasing amount of health issues that are arising.
In a Paleo diet, you should eat:
*Meat which includes the organs, bone marrow and organs.
*Eggs and local based honey.
*Fruits and vegetables.
*Seeds and raw nuts.
*Healthy fats such as coconut oil, avocado oil, butter and ghee.
Paleo suggests that you don’t incorporate grains or legumes into this diet. It is unfortunate because they do have their own health benefits.
Sticking with this certain type of diet provides whole foods, lean proteins, vegetables, fruits, and healthy fats. It’s quite beneficial to your health but why eliminate certain types of healthy foods that also provide health benefits. Many diets surface with good intentions but they may not be the best way of eating. The Atkins diet was great for males but when the women started following that diet their cholesterol went through the roof.
I have been cooking for a very long time now. My clients do eat food bought from the local supermarkets. Some do eat organic and some not so much. From what I have experienced many health issues resolved themselves when people went back to eating true food and not processed foods.
Eat food that provides you with vitamins and minerals that support the body to function optimally. Incorporate fresh meat, fruits and vegetables in your meals. It’s not only eating healthy that will keep you strong; you need a good night’s sleep. Get outside for fresh air and start walking or hiking.
Any small steps you take will increase your life span and support you with good health. My take on paleo is that it is probably a fad diet that many don’t stick to for the long haul. Eat sensibly is all I can say.
